Happy Death Day
*SPOILER ALERT*
Over Fall Break I got
the chance to see Happy Death Day in theaters, the day after it came out. I had
been wanting to see this movie for quite some time and had high hopes that it
would be a great film. The previews that I saw looked so interesting and kind
of scary.
A quick summary of
the movie is that the main character is living the same day over and over
again. The day starts and ends the same way every time. The day starts with her
phone going off and her waking up in a random guy’s dorm. The day ends by her
being killed in a different way each time. Throughout the movie she is trying
to figure out who her killer is, so that she can prevent herself from being
killed. The main character is not a nice person and is very rude to lots of the
people around her.
Trying to put the
pieces together and figure out who hates her enough to kill her, was the tricky
part of the movie. The movie would have you thinking it was one person and then
totally switch things up and throw the viewers off. Long story short, after
lots and lots of twists and turns in the movie, it ended up being her roommate
that kills her. This was honestly the last person I thought it would be. The
main character is able to prevent her death from happening now that she knows her
roommate is her killer.
There was a lot that
I took away from the movie though. The first being, to just be nice to people. You
never know what’s going on in someone’s life. Throughout the movie, the main
character is mean to everyone surrounding her and not even realizing the impact
that she had on them. When she had the chance to relive her days over and over
again, she started to be nicer to the people around her. Living life to the
fullest doesn’t mean being crazy and partying hard, it means being nice to
others, building strong relationships, and overall being a decent human being.
Throughout the movie
the main character does not seem to have a relationship with her dad and ignores
all the phone calls he attempts to make to her. By the end, she ends up building
a relationship with her dad and answers his phone call. They got lunch and she apologizes
for being absent and ignoring him. The key take away that I got from the movie
is to be nice and live life like there is no tomorrow.
