Ourselves on Social Media Vs. Our Real Life Selves

I think that on my various social media platforms I definitely portray myself differently on each site. On Facebook I have lots of family members that are my friends and I try to stay as low-key on there as possible. When I say low-key I mean, not posting a whole lot of pictures, definitely not using bad language, and rarely posting status updates. I also have to be careful of what I post on my Snapchat because my little sisters who look up to me, follow me on there. Before I post a Snapchat on the weekends, I remind myself that my little sisters can see and I would not want their view of my image to change. Even though I am 21 I try to not let my sisters see me partying. On Instagram I have a more relaxed page that I feel like I can post some pictures of me going out and enjoying the weekends at parties with friends, and not have to worry that I will be upsetting any family members. There are less family members that follow me and the ones that do follow me, do not care. Then finally I have my twitter image, which is pretty similar to my Instagram image. I am not as stressed about family members seeing my stuff and questioning what I do or say on Twitter or Instagram. With all that being said, I am still very careful about what I post on my twitter and Instagram because I do not want future employers to have any reason to doubt my character. I feel like the typical person on social media tries their best to put up the best image of themselves on their social media pages. Whether that means making themselves look like a good person, having lots of friends, or having an adventurous life of travel. There are lots of different images that people put up of themselves on social media to make themselves seem more appealing to others.
I think that Donald Trump is a perfect example of someone on social media who doesn’t really care about how he portrays himself. Of course he wants to sound smart and get a point across, but Mr. Trump does not care how he accomplishes that goal, as long as he gets his point across. Since he is President of the United States he tries to set the example for the citizens of the United States, but comes across very rude and harsh at times with the content that he posts on social media. I am not sure if he realizes how people interpret his posts or if he evens cares about how he comes across for that matter. Mr. Trump and his famous twitter page is what I always think of when I think of Mr. Trump on social media. He says what is on his mind and does not care if it offends anyone. I often wonder if he even cares about the impressions that he gives off to people. Understanding impression management matters because it means you care about the way people perceive you in life. If you do not have a concern about the impression you give off to people, it can cause you trouble in the long run of life.
