My
personal experience with Facebook started the summer before my Sophomore year
of high school. I remember begging my parents to let me get a Facebook all
throughout my freshman year, but they never gave in. All the other kids in my
class had a Facebook, except me. Looking back now, I see why my parents wanted
me to wait to get one. High schoolers sometimes have a tendency to not think
before they post. I know that there were a couple of times looking back that I should
have been more careful when I was using Facebook, but my immature high school
self would not agree with that. When I first started using Facebook it was
mostly to connect with my high school class. When I say connect, I mean,
sharing photos and talking through the instant messaging on Facebook. My
parents had the password to my Facebook account in case they ever wanted to
check up and see what I was doing, but I never gave them a reason to need to do
that. The only thing that my parents complained about, was when I first got
Facebook and was constantly on my laptop. My parents felt like I was disconnected
from the present world because I was constantly socializing on Facebook, rather
than bonding with my family.
I
would say that Facebook is a very good way of communicating with others and
allowing people who you do not see regularly to be updated with your life, if
you wish for them to be. Since the time I first started using Facebook up until
now I have used the instant messenger. When I first started using Facebook that
was the way I connected with a bunch of my classmates, but now I use the messenger
to talk with my Grandpa who chooses to connect with me that way. Also, while I
was abroad in London Facebook Messenger allowed for me to stay in contact with some
of my family since I did not have a phone plan in London.
Although
I am not as into Facebook as I used to be, I still use the app very often.
Something that I like about the Facebook app is that there is always something
new to look at in my newsfeed. I enjoy the funny memes, looking at various
recipes that pages post, and all the cat and dog pictures people post. I feel
like now; I have a completely different use of Facebook. My use of Facebook now
is not necessarily for social reasons, but rather for entertainment purposes.
There is always something that can entertain me on Facebook when I get bored
during the day.
